Cause and Effect, The Spiral Pattern, and Allowing

For my little boy, life is effortless and uncomplicated

Some of my recent musings:

It's amazing when you really step back and appreciate every moment that you have and have had. We as souls have chosen to experience this linear existence of cause and effect. What we do in the now and how it will affect everything around us holds such promise or disaster depending on what we choose. It comes down to realizing that we and we alone are responsible for our actions, reactions and yes, even non-action in itself has consequences.

You cannot possibly know the outcome of everything you do. You can do the best with what you know at the moment and remember that there are always possibilities. If you have found yourself in a bind, be open to miracles. In the meantime follow your heart and intuition. Honor your beliefs and what you know to be right. Do not allow yourself to be overwhelmed by negative feelings. Let them pass through you so you can own them, not the other way around. Remember who you are and why you have come to experience this life. It is very important that we remain calm and stay in a state of clarity. Otherwise, getting swept up into the drama only hinders our growth.

I realize sometimes you must do what you must in order to protect yourself or those you love. Other times you must make a stand because you can see how your decision affects the ultimate outcome. Some call these people martyrs. Some call them heroes. I would like to take a moment and pay respect to these people's bravery, from the soldier on the front line to the housewife barely getting by, thank you and bless you.

There is a powerful need to be in balance between the knowing that this is all an illusion, and at the same time being grounded within this reality and its consequences. After all, we have come to "play the game" by our own free will. We are here to learn, to experience, and grow. Yes, this does include the full spectrum of emotion.

I've realized that old saying is true...

"It's not about winning or losing. It's how you play the game."

Don't allow your outside circumstances to define who you are, or whether or not you have won or lost. Your reality is constantly occurring within. You and you alone hold the power to define what it is. It's always about your perception, rather than the judgment of others that matters in the end. We can be our worst judges. If you know you are on your path, stay true and be open to good in your life.

Ever find yourself in similar situations over and over again? Either it gets better or it gets worse each time. Depending on who we are talking about, it  may have to do with money, relationships, substance abuse, staying out of trouble, or even moving from home to home. Everyone has experienced this no matter how unlikely it may appear on the surface. Take a moment and think of your pattern...

Life is made up of many patterns. Observe the nature of the world we live in. From the smallest to the largest... the micro and macro. What makes us think that our experiences in life would be any different from the patterns in the world and universe?

Two things that are certain are death and change. Some of the darkest times I have experienced seemed to hold no hope to the casual observer,  but held not only light at the end of the tunnel--there was a gift waiting for me there. In a sense it is a symbolic death followed by a renewal of life. Everyday is a cleansing process. It's a matter of elevating yourself to the next level. Like a spiral, only each time you come back around you move up or down depending on you. Do you resist what is, or do you simply let go and flow? This allows new ways of thinking and opportunities into your reality.

How do you know if you are resisting or allowing the flow? First, you must be truthful with yourself. Second, you must be aware of your emotions. If you are feeling "bad" you are resisting. If you are feeling "good" or "neutral" you are allowing. This is not about thinking of the outcome of a situation. It is about opening to new opportunities of change within yourself which will affect the immediate world around you. This is where miracles occur.

Yes this is related to the law of attraction, faith and the power of intentions, but more then anything, in your belief in yourself to manifest your reality. We are all energy, everything is energy. You simply consciously redirect the flow of the energy thereby transforming its nature and function through the combination of your thoughts and emotions. Remain patient and open and have faith that that it will be this or something better. Trust that the universe has your best interests at heart, no matter what the situation looks like. Wow, that can be a tough one! I know, but I am telling you that it is well worth it.

A bad situation suddenly turns into a great opportunity that you may have not been aware of at first glance. I know this has at least happened to you once in your life. Take a moment and think about it. Most of the things we worry about never occur. Keep in mind all that time and energy wasted upon something that never happened. I wouldn't call this living life to the fullest, would you?

To quote Epictetus - "There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will."

Which brings us to knowing when to let go. There was a saying when I was growing up, a lot of you may have heard it before as well. "Let go and let God." I remind myself of this. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the "hows," "whens," "wheres," and "whys" that we end up blocking these answers.

Despite the many so-called challenges I have already seen in my relatively short life, I may still have a ways to go, but to that I say: Bring it on. At this point, it can only get better.

Wishing you well in the adventure of life,
- Matthew
